Turn the objective into a practical shoot brief

Start with the audience and the action you want the video to support. An educational lesson, product demonstration and paid advertisement need different structures. Write a short brief that identifies the main message, proof, presenter and destination. Share an example of the tone or style you want.

  • Define the final platform and expected video length.
  • List the products, presenters and brand assets needed.
  • Agree who can approve the script and visual direction.

Prepare a shot list and a simple script

A shot list turns an idea into a recording plan. Include the opening, demonstrations, supporting details and closing call to action. For Smart Board sessions, organise slides and annotations before arrival. Plan how your presenter moves between explanations so the recording can stay clear and efficient.

  • Check names, figures, claims and product specifications.
  • Bring presentations in an agreed file format and a backup copy.
  • Mark the lines or demonstrations that need separate takes.

Confirm equipment and studio conditions

Describe your lighting, backdrop, microphone and camera requirements in the booking request. Ask what the studio-time rate includes and what is quoted separately. Sound treatment, specific brands and specialist equipment must be confirmed rather than assumed. Request current setup information if audio quality is critical to your project.

  • Agree camera coverage, resolution and operator support.
  • Check the number of microphones and any required audio connections.
  • Confirm the studio location, arrival instructions and recording time.

Organise products, people and permissions

Prepare clean products, packaging and props before the session. Give presenters the approved script and let them practise difficult names or demonstrations. Agree who can appear in the recording and where the content may be used. Avoid bringing private client information into a visible screen or presentation.

  • Choose outfits that work with the planned backdrop and microphones.
  • Arrange model, location or product permissions where needed.
  • Keep a list of the items that must be returned after the shoot.

Separate studio time from post-production

Studio time covers the agreed recording session. Editing, subtitles, motion graphics, colour work and additional versions are separate deliverables unless your package explicitly includes them. Agree the number of outputs and revision rounds before confirming. This makes a quote easier to compare and helps avoid surprises later.

  • Specify the main edit and any short social clips.
  • Agree language, subtitle style and branded graphics.
  • Confirm the delivery deadline and how feedback will be collected.

Review and learn from the finished content

Before publishing, check the audio, captions, graphics and destination links on a phone as well as a desktop screen. Confirm that the final message matches the approved brief. After publication, review the audience response that matters to your goal and use that evidence to plan the next recording.

  • Keep final approved files and source assets organised.
  • Use consistent naming for episodes, products and revisions.
  • Record practical lessons about the next shoot, not just view counts.

Bring your checklist into the booking conversation.

Tell us your preferred date, content format and the equipment or editing you want to discuss.
